Many thanks to Ken Rowley for the first submission in what we hope will be a growing series of photographs in this series:
Fricourt - approach to the village. Picture shows A line of German prisoners being marched into Fricourt during the Battle of Bazentin Ridge, 14-17 July 1916, part of the Battle of the Somme.
Image shows a group of soldiers, commonly believed to be a company of the Public Schools Battalion (16th Battalion, The Middlesex Regiment) at "White City", opposite Beaumont Hamel prior to the Battle of the Somme, 1916. (Alternatively, the men may be from the 1st Battalion, The East Lancashire Regiment on 1 July, 1916.)
